New Years Eve
I promise I wasn't really as fat as this picture makes me look. But this will make my weight loss look so much more impressive!
This is our "get fit and look better than we did at 17 challenge". The point of this blog is to keep tabs on each other, to motivate ourselves and our friends, share tips, be held accountable for our choices, and of course, to reward ourselves with an amazing vacation where we can lounge around in our bathing suits looking sexier than a group of college coeds.
For those of you that are just now finding our blog and don't know what on earth we're talking about, feel free to go back to our first post on September 13th to read the outline for our challenge.

About Marion
Hello, Girls! I'm MJ & I am excited about this challenge. I plan to build habits that will lead to a healthy and well balanced life. I also want to be a good role model for my daughter.
Focusing on being healthy and fit are especially important to me because I have a family history of diabetes and high cholesterol. I also have a hip injury that prevents me from doing many of the fitness plans out there. I imagine I will spend most of my time walking and doing other low impact exercises. I hope to achieve more muscle strength and to become more tone throughout this challenge.
My largest obstacle is probably stress. My world is hectic right now and it doesn't look like things will slow down anytime soon. I am convinced that stress causes a lot of damage to our bodies. I am determined to find ways to alleviate it. Exercise and good nutrition are two things that I need to work on. I believe this challenge will help with my stress levels and make me a happier person.
THIS IS MY PLAN:
*Toning & strength training
$1 each workout
*8 glasses of H2O
25 cents per day
*Staying within carb limit
25 cents per day
*Meeting fiber intake
25 cents per day
*Getting 6-8 hours of sleep
25 cents per night.
I really need a couple of days in paradise! Having something on the calendar just for me (even if it is a year away) is really encouraging! During the last little while, I have come to realize how much I love and need my friends. Women need women! For the first time in my life I feel like I have a true support group to help me become fit and have a great time doing it. Thanks Ya Yas!

Marion's Milestones
- Yoga every Saturday for a month.
- 1 inch lost from trouble spots
- 3 miles on the treadmill in one workout. After I meet this milestone consecutively for 4 weeks, I will add a mile and work toward the new total for my next milestone. 4 miles, 5 miles etc.
About Rachel
Iwant to find balance in all things in life, to not be afraid of food, eating it and not eating it and becoming a fit person for life (no more start and stop exercising when I "have time" or when my kids are in school?!)
At the end of the year I of course want a beautiful body but I also want a healthy body image. I know I can't have the amazing dancer body that I once had but I can have a beautiful body that has had babies and now sort has hips! I would love to have my 17 year old body back but I know that I can be one fine looking 30+ year old that makes heads turn!
I will create a fit for life habbit that I can maintain and not become too obsessive in my search for health.

Rachel's Milestones
- Dance with the NY Ballet
- Thanks Janis too bad I never went on point!
- For every item of clothing I fit back into that I owned before last pregnancy and look like it fits me instead of a fat woman shoved into skinny lady clothes (ew gross!)
- Drink 48 oz. of water each day for a week and build up from there.
- For every three pounds I lose.
- Increase flexibility so ... I'll have to figure out how to measure this?! The only way I can figure to measure this is to be flat in my splits again!
- Eat breakfast every moring for two weeks, then three etc.
About Maria
I have been psyched about cycling and now I'm ready to run! Thought I had found my niche, my passion in cycling - geared up to buy a bike and cycle a century. Now I'm ready to run. I am so excited to have a half marathon coming up and I am looking for more! I think I might like to be able to call myself a "runner" someday and feel like the title fits - not like I'm a poser.
I don’t want to look like I did in high school – I want to look BETTER than I did in high school. My goal is to look better than I have ever looked before, to FEEL better than I have ever felt before, and to be stronger than I’ve ever been before. My goal is to have a flat stomach for the first time in my life, to have definition in my arms, to have thighs that I don’t feel ashamed of, and a butt that doesn’t need expensive jeans to look fabulous! Simply put - I want to look great naked!
But enough about how I want to look, this is about so much more than that for me.
I have never been athletic or involved in sports. I have never been able to run a mile without stopping. My goal is to run a 10K and after I've done that – I’ll start training for a marathon. I’d also like to buy a bike and start cycling. (Tour de France? Sure! It might be the only way I ever get to see France.)
Around April of 2008 I started working out – HARD. And it is starting to pay off. I am stronger than I’ve ever been and feel better than I’ve ever felt. I’ve become addicted to and committed to an active and healthy lifestyle. My ultimate goal is to continue on this incredible journey and take my best friends with me!

About Janis
My goal is to look better than I did when I graduated from high school at the age of 17. While I was never what you'd consider fat or overweight, I was never happy with my size and I've got no one to blame but myself. I was what you might call "lazy". I never really worked at it because I never really had to. Genetics automatically put me in that "you look fine" range and I simply accepted it. But that ends now. I'm not going to just slide by anymore. By the end of the year I will look better than I ever have before and not only will I feel better, I'll also feel better about myself and be confident in my body, for the first time ever. . . as long as I don't break my leg or something stupid like that.
